KRISTEN'S STORY - WINNER

STRANGER PAYS $1,000 POWER BILL FOR TEEN ON LIFE SUPPORT

A Michigan firefighter with a big heart paid off a family’s outstanding power bill so the electricity needed for their son’s ventilator would be turned back on.

Firefighter Ryan McCuen with Clinton Township responded to the emergency call mom Christy Stone placed after the home’s power was turned off because they couldn’t pay the bill.

She explained that her family has been overwhelmed with medical costs for her son Troy, 19, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and relies on the electrically powered ventilator to “breathe and stay alive” and another 15-year-old son who also has muscular dystrophy.

"When she explained the unpaid bill, her family's situation and how she didn't know what to do, it was a no-brainer for me," explains McCuen, 35. He paid the outstanding bill for $1,023 for the family and their power was back on 20 minutes later. How’s that for going above and beyond the call of duty?
