I have a pretty massive coin collection of over 1,200 coins!! And I always get excited any time there's a new coin series announced!
Since 2010, the US Mint has been issuing quarters featuring designs depicting national parks and other national sites, but that program wraps up this year with coins featuring Duke Ellington, the Tuskegee Airmen and Samoan fruit bats. After that for one year, the reverse of our quarters will depict George Washington's famous crossing of the Delaware River.
But then in January 2022, the US Mint is launching their "American Women Quarters Program", honoring pioneering women from throughout our country's history.
First up are poet Maya Angelou and gender-barrier-breaking astronaut Sally Ride.
After that, it's up to you!
The Mint is working with the National Women's History Museum to choose more women to be on the reverse of these quarters, which will run through 2025. All of the women who appear on the coins must be deceased. Other than that, the requirements are pretty broad!
