(September 17, 2012) Award-winning Actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise, founder of the Gary Sinise Foundation, and Frank Siller, chairman of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation (named after a firefighter who perished on 9/11), announced today that Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band will perform a concert on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park in Alpharetta, Georgia. The concert formally kicks off fundraising efforts to build “smart homes” for local heroes Army SFC Michael Schlitz and Marine Cpl. Todd Love.
General admission tickets to the concert are $59.50, $49.50, and $39.50. A limited number of VIP packages will be available which includes seating directly on the stage, VIP parking, entrance to the Carl Black VIP Club and a pre-concert meal for $150. Tickets go on sale now through all Ticketmaster outlets, charge by phone at (800) 745-3000, online at www.Ticketmaster.com or the venue box office. Concert begins at 7:00p.m.
This fundraising effort will go towards building hi-tech homes for Schlitz and Love, to maximize their ability to lead independent lives. Love, from Acworth, GA, lost both legs and his left arm as a result of an IED explosion in Afghanistan. Schlitz, from Columbus, GA, was burned over 85% of his body, and lost two limbs and the eyesight in his left eye, when two artillery shells exploded nearby, during his service in Iraq.
Sinise, nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Lt. Dan—the character who lost both legs in battle in “Forrest Gump”—and the star of CBS’ popular “CSI: New York”, along with his Lt. Dan Band will rock the house with hits from the likes of The Police, Earth, Wind and Fire, Charlie Daniels, Aretha Franklin and Adele.
This concert is the latest in a series of performances resulting from a partnership between the Gary Sinise Foundation and the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The partnership was created to raise money to build “smart homes”—equipped with the latest technology—allowing military who’ve been seriously injured in Iraq or Afghanistan, to lead independent lives. To date, three fully-equipped homes have been given to military heroes in Staten Island, NY, Lake of the Ozarks, MO, and most recently in Temecula, CA, which resulted in coverage by ASSOCIATED PRESS, CNN, LOS ANGELES TIMES, FOX, CBS, ABC, and HUFFINGTON POST. Over a dozen other homes are nearly completed, or are in the planning or fundraising stages.
Said Sinise, “I am thrilled that the Gary Sinise Foundation partnership with the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has committed through our ‘Building For America’s Bravest’ program, to raise the necessary funds and community awareness to build Todd and Michael specially designed smart homes to help them. They served their country honorably and sacrificed much in that service. Taking care of our injured or disabled veterans is critically important. That’s why I hope that the community will join us in this effort and come out to honor Todd and Michael at our concert on November 3.”
Added Frank Siller, “The fact that we are helping Todd and Michael reclaim their full, active lives by providing them with homes designed to meet their special needs, means the world to Stephen’s family.”
