UPDATE: Brad Pitt Responds to Melissa Etheridge Criticizing Angelina Jolie

Brad Pitt isn't thrilled with Melissa Etheridge's recent comments about Angelina Jolie's decision to get a preventative double mastectomy, but that doesn't mean he's going to badmouth his longtime friend in the press.

At the World War Z premiere in New York City June 17, the actor told Us Weekly how he felt about the rocker recently telling The Washington Blade she felt Jolie made "the most fearful choice you can make when confronting anything with cancer."

Pitt hadn't heard about Etheridge's interview until just before the red carpet event. "I don't know," he told Us. "Somebody just said that."

"Melissa's an old friend of mine," continued Pitt, who invited Etheridge to perform at his 2000 wedding to Jennifer Aniston. "I'm sure we'll talk on the phone. I don't know what it is."

Etheridge herself was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004; she says she's been cancer-free for nine years. "I wouldn't call it a brave choice," the 52-year-old singer said of Jolie's decision to seek preventative medical attention. "My belief is that cancer comes from inside you and so much of it has to do with the environment of your body. It's the stress that will turn that gene on or not."

The Jolie-Pitts, however, clearly disagree. After the Academy Award winning actress opened up about her experience in a New York Times op-ed piece May 13, Pitt lauded his fiancee's heroism. "I think it's an individual decision and I found it very empowering instead of scary," he told Us June 17. "We experienced the exact opposite."

The Salt star decided to get the multi-operation procedure after discovering she had the BRCA gene mutation that often leads to the disease. Jolie had previously lost her mother and her uncle to cancer; her aunt Debbie lost her battle with breast cancer in late May.

"Plenty of people have the gene mutation and everything but it never comes to cancer," Etheridge argued in her interview with The Washington Blade. "I would say to anybody faced with that, that choice is way down the line on the spectrum of what you can do and to really consider the advancements we've made in things like nutrition and stress levels."

Despite Etheridge's criticism, many celebrities have come out in support of Jolie, including cancer survivors Sheryl Crow and Giuliana Rancic.

Release dates have been announced for the 3rd and 4th films in the The Amazing Spider-Man franchise.

On June 10, 2016, they'll release the third film in the series, and on May 4, 2018, they'll release the fourth.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens May 2, 2014.

Q. Seat Belts for the Whole Family: I'm having an ongoing discussion/argument with my husband regarding his seat belt use—or rather, lack thereof—and I'm hoping you can help me! We are in our early 30s and my husband grew up being taught from both his parents that seat belts don't make a difference. His mom had an aunt who was unable to get out of a car after a nasty wreck because she became entangled in the belt, and died. This was of course tragic; however it was many, many years ago, and safety regulations have changed, but husband doesn't listen to that argument. Husband himself rear-ended someone when he was in his early 20s and happened to walk away with just a few bruises, and he will use this to say, "See? I wasn't hurt, and I won't be hurt." Between this and my FIL's small town "I've never worn them, you can't make me" attitude, my otherwise completely logical and amazing husband refuses to wear a seat belt. We now have a child on the way, and I've point blank told him once that child is born, he will be wearing the belt at all times, to which he rolls his eyes and acts like I'm spewing conspiracy theories. I've tried explaining it's for the baby's safety as well as his, and he just replies, "Well of course the kid will be buckled in!" How can I possibly convince him that his not being belted can endanger the life of everyone else in the car as well as his own life?

A: Of the four people in the car the night Princess Diana died, the only one who lived was the one wearing a seat belt. Your husband and his parents simply couldn't be more wrong. Now that your husband is about to become a father, it might be worth it to do some research on seat belts to present to him—the National Transportation Safety Board and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety are a couple of places to start. The story of his aunt's death is a family legend, but who knows how true it is, and likely this is an old story and seat belt technology has improved exponentially since then. I hope your husband knows he will be breaking the law if he refuses to wear a seat belt, particularly while driving with a child. Wearing a seat belt is no more a matter of personal preference than deciding on what the speed limit should be. But if logic won't work, action might. From now on, refuse to drive with him unless he buckles up. Of course this might be inconvenient, but you can explain he is putting your new family at risk by exposing himself to the dangers of being unbelted. If an accident were to happen, he would be an uncontained missile in the car. Explain to him that you would rather not be caring for a new child and a brain-damaged husband, and you are not going along for the ride unless he obeys the law.

Con Slobodchikoff is a professor at Northern Arizona University, and he’s been working on a device that can interpret prairie dog barks, and translate them into English! Within 10 years, technogoly should reach the point where we’ll be able to interpret what other animals are saying. This includes farm animals, cats, and dogs. This device wouldn’t be just for people to figure out if their dog is hungry. It will save animals lives. Slobodchikoff explains that “four million dogs are euthanized every year because of behavioral problems. Most problems are because of the lack of communication between animal and human.” The professor states “if we had the chance to talk back and forth, the dog could say, ‘You’re scaring me.’ And you could say, ‘Well, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that I was scaring you. I’ll give you more space.” Pretty soon all of us will be Dr. Dolittle.

APP PAYS YOU TO SPOT ILLEGALLY PARKED CARS

A new mobile phone app rewards tattling with money. SpotSquad allows users to report illegally parked cars and receive a cut of the fine paid as a reward. The app works by taking a photo of the car and using optical character recognition to read and record the license plate number. The app also automatically uses GPS to tag the location where the photo was taken, and the user then chooses the type of infraction they observed from a list. The app then sends the infraction information to the operator of the lot or local law enforcement if it's on public property. The app was invented by a technology startup in Canada, and one company co-founder, Chris Johnson, tells Fox News that the photos themselves will not be submitted as evidence in court, at least not at this stage. Boy Meets World Spinoff Girl Meets World Gets Picked Up By Disney

Cory and Topanga are good to go! Girl Meets World, the much anticipated spinoff of beloved '90s show Boy Meets World, has officially been picked up by the Disney Channel, the network announced on Monday, June 17. The reboot is scheduled to premiere in 2014, with production beginning this summer in L.A.

"Boy Meets World and its story of adolescent self-discovery resonated with an entire generation of tweens," Disney Channel executive vice president Adam Bonnett said in a statement. "In the same way audiences fell in love with Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, we look forward to introducing our viewers to their daughter...and building a memorable connection with a whole new generation of fans."

"I am grateful to everyone at Disney Channel for the opportunity to reach my favorite audience, which has always been kids," creator and executive producer Michael Jacobs added. "Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular."

Set in New York, Girl Meets World will star Spy Kids actress Rowan Blanchard, 11, as Riley Matthews, the middle-school-age daughter of beloved couple Cory and Topanga, played by original series stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel. William Daniels, a.k.a. Mr. Feeny, is also set to reprise his role in at least one episode, per earlier reports.

Speaking about the spinoff shortly after news of the pilot leaked, Savage, 32, said he was thrilled to be stepping back into Cory's shoes. "It's exciting and flattering that people are still so excited about the show after all this time," he told Rolling Stone.

"No one wanted to really cash in, if you will, too early, or no one really wanted to do something that was going to be cheesy," he continued. "We're really working hard and doing everything we can to make sure that this is going to be something special and funny, and hopefully it'll make new memories for a new generation."

The architect behind a new Falcons stadium unveiled new "concept" images of the stadium's design.

"This is primarily an open building that closes instead of a closed building that opens," said Bill Johnson of 360 Architecture, the Kansas City firm chosen to design the billion -dollar retractable roof stadium.

The stadium architect showed off images of an eleven-sided building wedged into the stadium's south site -- capped with an eight-piece roof that twists open and closed like the aperture of a camera.

"The interesting thing is even though we have eight parts, they're much smaller than other roofs out there and they have to go a shorter distance," Johnson said. By comparison, he said the retractable roof at Reliant Field in Houston has three parts.

The Atlanta Falcons are funding most of the stadium's construction costs. The Atlanta hotel-motel tax will pay for construction bonds totalling $200 million, plus maintenance costs once the stadium is built and the construction bonds are paid. The city of Atlanta is paying for infrastructure improvements.

The stadium's backers say the concept can be used at whichever site finally gets chosen, a decision expected by midsummer, or sooner. The city and state are negotiating to buy two churches that currently impede construction on the preferred site south of the Georgia Dome.

"A lot of retractable roof stadiums just haven't been open very often," McKay said. "As good as our weather is, and as good as our environment is, and the fact that we have downtown adjacent to us, we've always wanted that connectivity."

Backers stress that the new images are "concept" designs only, subject to revision. The Georgia World Congress Center Authority board is expected to vote on whether to accept the concept at a meeting Tuesday.
