B-Ball Player Disputes Foul Call with AK-47
A Glennville man was cited for disorderly conduct June 11 after allegedly waving an AK-47 assault rifle around at a Hinesville basketball court during a dispute over a foul call.
Hinesville police were dispatched to the Liberty County Recreation Department basketball courts after receiving a report that a man had pulled an AK-47 out of the trunk of his car and threatened another man with it.
When police arrived, they found the area “very crowded,” according to the report. They were told that the man who had produced the gun was sitting on the bleachers.
Police made contact with the man, identified as Sidney Hall, 25, of Glennville. According to the report, Hall told police he had gotten into an argument with another man during a basketball game. Hall said the other man was much larger than him and he was concerned for his safety, so he went to his vehicle, pulled out the AK-47 and said, “I have a gun, and I'm not afraid of you!” Hall told police that he then put the gun back in his car and went to sit on the bleachers, according to the report.
Police also spoke with the man Hall said he had argued with. The man said that the argument had been precipitated by a foul call during the basketball game. He said Hall had gone to his car and said something about a gun, although he had not seen the gun himself. According to the report, the man told police that he had responded by saying, “I don’t give a (expletive) about no gun! I got guns too!”
The responding officers escorted Hall to his vehicle to look at the gun. According to the report, they found the gun in the backseat with “a 30-round magazine in the chamber.”
According to the report, when one of the officers inspected the gun and laid it back on the seat, the gun discharged, sending a round through the vehicle’s door and into the passenger door of a car parked in the next space. The officers then took control of the gun and unloaded it. According to the report, the rifle’s safety was off, but “even with the safety in the off position, the weapon should not have discharged.” A closer inspection showed that the rifle’s slide cover was not mounted correctly and appeared to be the wrong cover for the gun. “The gun also was very rusty and had not been maintained well,” the reporting officer noted. “I also noticed the butt of the weapon was attached to the receiver with a wood or drywall screw.”
Police took control of the weapon and ammunition and placed them in the police evidence locker. Hall was cited for disorderly conduct and given a bond of $330 and a court date of July 7.

This is great news for all beer drinkers because kidney stones are brutal. Just ask someone who’s had to deal with them.
Drinking coffee and wine also help, as coffee and wine reduce the risk by between 26 and 33 percent.
Unfortunately, you’re in trouble if you’re a soda junkie. People who drink one or more sugar-sweetened sodas per day are looking at a 23- to 33-percent higher risk of developing the problem.
